IAEI Türkiye and Bank Indonesia Explore Strategic Partnership in Islamic Economics and Finance

The Indonesian Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI) Türkiye is exploring a strategic partnership with Bank Indonesia to strengthen the development of Islamic economics and finance on the international stage. The initiative follows a meeting between the two institutions that covered a range of potential areas of cooperation, from academic research to broader institutional networking between Indonesia and Türkiye.

One of the central ideas to emerge is a proposed joint research initiative on Ottoman-era waqf practices. IAEI Türkiye sees this historical legacy as holding significant potential to inform the development of contemporary Islamic social finance, while also strengthening research ties between Indonesia and Türkiye. Both institutions remain open to exploring additional research themes aligned with their respective strategic priorities.

Beyond research, IAEI Türkiye is looking to explore publication opportunities for top papers to be presented at SAKİNAH TÜRKİYE 2026: Global Forum on Islamic Finance, through the Journal of Islamic Monetary Economics and Finance (JIMF), a scholarly journal published by Bank Indonesia. The initiative is expected to broaden the academic impact and international visibility of the forum's outcomes.

Bank Indonesia has also been invited to send a representative to speak in a CEO Talks session at SAKİNAH TÜRKİYE 2026. IAEI Türkiye is further inviting the bank's involvement through sponsorship, institutional support, or endorsement to help strengthen the forum's global reach.

Looking ahead, IAEI Türkiye hopes the partnership with Bank Indonesia can be formalized through the most suitable framework, whether a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), a Letter of Intent, or another collaborative arrangement. The partnership is viewed as a strategic bridge linking Indonesia and Türkiye in advancing research, policy development, education, and international collaboration in Islamic economics and finance.

The collaboration is being championed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Aam Slamet Rusydiana, Chairperson of IAEI Türkiye, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan Aslan, Advisory Board member of IAEI Türkiye. Both also serve as faculty members in the Department of Islamic Economics and Finance, Faculty of Political Science, Sakarya University.
