BPKH Supervisory Board Visits IAEI Türkiye and İSEFAM in Sakarya to Explore Sharia Schemes for Hajj Fund Investment

The Indonesian Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI) Türkiye Chapter, together with the Research Center for Islamic Economics and Finance (İSEFAM), Sakarya University, welcomed an audience with the Supervisory Board (Dewan Pengawas) of the Hajj Fund Management Agency (Badan Pengelola Keuangan Haji, BPKH) of the Republic of Indonesia. The meeting took place on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, at İSEFAM, Sakarya University, Türkiye.

The audience was convened as part of a study on the elaboration of sharia schemes for the hajj fund investment management model. Both parties exchanged views on the development of Islamic economic and financial thought and practice in Türkiye, while also exploring opportunities to strengthen the governance of public funds grounded in sharia principles.

The Supervisory Board of BPKH holds the mandate to oversee the management, investment, and reporting of hajj funds carried out by the Executive Board (Badan Pelaksana). This mandate is exercised in accordance with the principles of legality, accountability, and liquidity, as well as the long term sustainability of the Hajj Fund. In fulfilling its duties, the Supervisory Board regularly engages in dialogue with academics, practitioners, and professional associations in the field of Islamic economics and finance, both at home and among the Indonesian diaspora abroad.

As IAEI's overseas chapter in Türkiye, IAEI Türkiye brings together Indonesian academics, researchers, and practitioners who are active in advancing Islamic economics and finance. Its presence is expected to serve as a strategic bridge between Indonesian professional networks abroad and national institutions such as BPKH.

The Research Center for Islamic Economics and Finance (İSEFAM), Sakarya University, took part in the meeting as host and academic partner. As one of the leading centers for Islamic economics and finance in Türkiye, İSEFAM contributed institutional and scholarly perspectives relevant to the study of sharia based investment governance.

Several topics addressed during the audience included developments in Islamic economic and financial research and practice in Türkiye, opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing between IAEI Türkiye, İSEFAM, and BPKH, and perspectives from the Indonesian academic and professional diaspora in Türkiye on strengthening sharia based public financial governance.

Through this meeting, the parties hope to generate concrete ideas that support a hajj fund investment management model that is secure, productive, and consistent with sharia principles, while also expanding cross country academic cooperation between Indonesia and Türkiye.
